Nakuis walk God's trail

New Tribes missionaries go into a tribe with the ultimate goal of working themselves out of a job. The team that has ministered among the Nakuis in Papua New Guinea since 1991 has done just that.

In their final moments in the tribe, the missionary team presented several boxes of newly printed materials to the believers and exhorted them to put them to good use.

The missionaries had opportunity to encourage the believers in their walk with God and to answer many questions.

"I was able to assure them the same Holy Spirit Jesus sent is the same Holy Spirit that is now with the Nakuis," wrote Tim Askew.

After one meeting with the believers, Kibo looked toward a mountain where previous generations of Nakuis lived and built their homes.

"It’s like that trail out there," he said. "My children and I walk that trail. Before us our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers walked that same trail over and over, year after year. That’s how it might have been for us spiritually too. Our forefathers lived in darkness, traveling Satan’s trail generation after generation. But you came and showed us God’s trail. We now walk the trail that Jesus cut for us and we are very happy. Thank you for revealing it to us."

The missionary team leaves with the knowledge that "the Word of grace has changed lives, and has made an eternal impact in that steamy, distant, Nakui jungle."

"From here on we will have limited communication with the Nakuis," Tim wrote. "After years of face-to-face, our ministry together is now one of prayer from a distance."

Please join the team as they continue to pray for their Nakui brothers and sisters, that "God will continue to illuminate their hearts to His truth and continue the work of grace He started."
