New believers to disciple
Missionary Lindy Drake and the Guanano church in Brazil are preparing a program of systematic discipleship for several new Guanano believers.
Over the past year, Herman and Mario have been teaching an evangelistic Bible study. These two Guanano brothers have faithfully taught that man was separated from God because of sin and that in the eyes of God they were like broken branches that had no life because they were separated from the tree.
Recently they presented the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and several placed their faith in Christ. The new believers, however, are bringing some new challenges for the church.
Roberto is an alcoholic and had previously subsisted on his wife’s hard work and meager earnings. Their sons have witnessed their father’s binges many times.
Roberto has recognized his need for a Savior and that Christ is his only hope of salvation, but he has expressed fear that his drunken lifestyle may be too difficult even for God to fix.
Roberto and his wife Marsalene are taking their first wobbly steps of faith together and are learning to trust the Lord, not just with their eternal future but with their day-to-day walk with Christ.
"We are now a team of believers," wrote Lindy. "Along with the Holy Spirit and the living Christ Himself we are committed to give Roberto and his family the support they need to grow."
Pray for Roberto and Marsalene to grow in their knowledge and understanding of Jesus and that Roberto will soon realize that none of his problems are too difficult for God. Pray also for Herman and Mario and others in the Guanano church as they disciple and nurture the new believers.
