New year, new opportunities

Challenge is a recurring theme for the Arnold family in Mexico. The family faced many undertakings last year and this year will greet them with even more adjustments and experiences.

"The trials and challenges we faced, although common to the human experience, challenged our hearts and walk with the Lord," Matt Arnold wrote.

Last year, Matt experienced the loss of his father in March.

"This came very unexpected yet the Lord allowed for us to navigate through it with His presence and His strength," Matt wrote.

With a new year unfolding, Matt and Starr look forward to what God has planned for their family.

Part of those plans included them moving back to their home in the Tepehuan tribe in Mexico.

"Opportunities to minister the Word of God abound. We are thankful," Matt wrote. "Yet this is not without challenges."

While Matt and Starr are thrilled to start their work in the tribe they are trying to adjust to life without the rest of their team: their children.

"The biggest challenge was having our kids in the boarding school in Chihuahua," Matt wrote. "They have all done well, but it remains a challenge and is very difficult for all three of them (mom and dad too)."

This year, Matt and Starr have a list of projects they want to accomplish during their time in the tribe.

While they work on writing lessons for Romans and Ephesians, they also plan to develop a small book on the Jewish Culture and continue to teach and disciple the Tepehuan believers as well as share the Gospel with unbelievers.

Matt asks for prayers for Candelalia, an 18-year-old Tepehuan woman.

"She is faithfully coming a couple times a week to hear God's Word," Matt wrote. "Starr is teaching her every opportunity they get."

Marcelo and Octavio are also in need of prayer.

"They are two men I am discipling. We are meeting together on a weekly basis," Matt wrote. "Both men are growing in their faith in Christ."
