No days off

God uses all kinds of missionary service--and support missionaries are vital to His work.

Torre and Narah Meissner are currently serving God as support missionaries in Mexico. And sometimes that service feels hard, Narah writes.

“It’s challenging to be physically so far away from the tribal works. We became support missionaries to serve tribal people, however at times it feels as if that goal is lost in airport pickups and supply buying,” she explains.

There are no days off for the guest house ministry. In fact, at times there is very little downtime with the many comings and goings. There is the pressure to keep up with what can be a demanding schedule of providing hospitality and encouragement.

Narah says that when she grows weary, Torre puts things in perspective for her.

“Do you think the tribal missionaries have any days off?” he reminds her gently. “They always have visitors at their door.”

“Ah yes, perspective,” Narah affirms to herself. Nothing like a little view from the bigger picture.

She knows that successful projects require teamwork. God calls some missionaries to active duty in a tribal setting. Others He calls to active duty in a support setting.

She loves the encouraging notes and words of thanks from missionaries that she and Torre have been privileged to host and care for. “Once, one of our co-workers left us a card in Spanish, thanking us for God’s ministry at the guest house. I kept it and I look at it from time to time when I need some encouragement.”

Narah says the excitement of being part of what God is doing in tribal people is never so keen as when they read updates of God’s work from missionaries in tribal locations. It reminds her of her important ministry to tribal missionaries and that “… we are here on this earth for something far greater than anything we can imagine.”

On their desktop wallpaper is a picture of the members of a young tribal church to remind them of that “something far greater.” A group of people—transformed by God’s Word.

“It’s neat to see them and pray for them,” Narah shares.
