No more doubts

Yembiyembi believers in Papua New Guinea showed their trust in God when a witchdoctor recently came to their village offering to cleanse their house of spirits for a small fee.

With the house cleansing came a guarantee -- no one who lived in the house would get sick or die. But the witchdoctor also threatened that those who didn't accept his offer would soon get sick and die.

Zaccheus stood up in the believers' meeting and said, "Everyone is free to follow their own thinking, but the footprints of this liar will not be around my house. Only God controls sickness and death. How can a mere man tell me he controls these things? This is a clear lie. We are not going down that path."

Another man, Job, spoke in the men's house. "This is the biggest of all cons. This man says he can keep us from sickness and death. Do it and see if it works, but my hands will be clean from this liar.

"Before I would have doubted and been thrown around like dry grass (easily persuaded), but my thinking is clear now. God alone holds us in His hands. But those of you who don't have clear thinking, who don't know the root of our talk, feel the fear in your bones and do it. But I have no fear of this man's words."

The believers haven't been intimidated by other threats either. They continue to teach in their houses every night and are talking about the older believers teaching evangelistic Bible lessons for the children and new believers who want to review.

Two unbelieving village chiefs are trying to stop the Bible teaching. There is talk of them taking missionary Brooks Buser and three chiefs who are believers to court.

Please pray that the Yembiyembi believers will continue to be light in the darkness around them. People have been coming from other villages to find out what the teaching is all about. Pray that they will discover the One who can deliver them from darkness.
