Old Testament passages close in Guanano
In early December, missionaries will take a key step toward publishing Old Testament portions in the language of the Guanano people of Colombia and Brazil.
The passages were first translated years ago so they could be used in evangelistic Bible lessons. But gathering and rechecking them for the last two years in order to publish them has been "tedious work," wrote Barry Spor.
Larry Richardson, a missionary experienced in Bible translation and trained to help check translations, is coming next month, as are eight Guananos who have not spent time in the Scriptures. These Guananos and the missionaries will work undertake an important almost-final check of Exodus through Judges, as well as some passages that contain prophecies about the Messiah.
The Guananos will be "listening to the reading of this Scripture, and telling us openly and clearly what they understand," Barry wrote. "We need Father God’s help in every area of this check because it is one of the last ones we do, and what comes out of it will likely be very close to the publication version."
Barry may not be able to be at the check because of a scheduling conflict, but his co-worker, Lindy Drake, will be there. Pray for Barry to have wisdom in resolving the conflict. Pray that the time is organized well and the check flows smoothly, and most of all that God’s Word will be clearly expressed in written Guanano at the end.
