On the road to God

Recently several Yembiyembi ladies in Papua New Guinea responded to the Gospel message and were baptized to demonstrate their faith.

One lady listened to her husband’s teaching from evangelistic Bible lessons and her life was changed.

"My husband would not leave me alone," she said. "When we would go to the garden, or canoe down the river, he kept talking about God. I thought, ’This is just outside talk that doesn’t really affect the spirit.’ But as he kept talking to me and as I listened to the teaching, my eyes were opened, and now I see that I am a sinner separated from God needing help. Jesus is my help! He is my road to God."

Her husband was led to Christ by his father and he passed on the teaching to his wife.

Another lady testified, "I was in darkness to this talk for
years, but now I am clear. Jesus is my only road to God. He died to pay for all my sin, and now I am on God’s side permanently."

Last week one of the new believers suddenly became very ill. In the past when this condition occurred she tried witchcraft for healing. Though this illness has lasted two years, the doctors are not sure what is causing her symptoms.

Last Wednesday she passed out and when she was revived could not move her arms or legs. Because of the seriousness of the situation she was taken by plane to seek further medical treatment.

Many unbelievers in the area were urging her to appease the spirits but she and her husband declared, "We will only ask our new Father for help now."
After a few minutes of people discussing the situation in fear and despair, she turned to everyone with a strong resolve in her eyes and said, "God holds my life in his hands. Hear this: I am not afraid to die. You know why -- because I know the way to God. If I die today, I will be with God because my sin debt has been paid for. Jesus has straightened the road for me already. I used to be afraid when this illness came upon me. But now I have peace, I will be with God if I die today."

Praise God for the Yembiyembi women who have trusted in Christ. Pray that those who have clearly expressed their faith and taken a strong stand for the Lord will continue to grow in Christ and will be a testimony of God’s power to the unbelievers who are watching their lives.
