Paying attention to God's Spirit

The Mengen people of Papua New Guinea heard the Gospel message one year ago. Now there is an established church.

""We are thrilled," wrote missionary Rebecca Preheim, "to see the ones who have responded and are now beginning to take steps of faith in their new-found life with Christ."

Koni, a Mengen believer, showed clear evidence of God working in his life recently. A few days ago, he stood up and testified concerning how the Lord was working in his life.

Apparently he lied about something, and his conscience would not let him rest until he made it right. He said the Holy Spirit made him "lie down on a bed of thorns" until he humbled himself and rectified the situation.

Many Mengen men are not so sensitive to the working of the Holy Spirit. Over the last few weeks several have gotten drunk and damaged their testimony for the Lord.

"It is difficult to see them stand and fall, wrote Rebecca, "but we are trusting that the Lord would continue to teach them and cause their faith to be strengthened each time they are lifted up again."

Pray for Koni as he follows the Lord. Pray too that the other Mengen believers will respond when the Holy Spirit convicts their hearts.
