Preparing for Bible teaching
The Siar people of Papua New Guinea will begin hearing evangelistic Bible lessons early next year. Missionary Lane Sanford is now translating Genesis 3 into the Siar language.
"There are some major concepts introduced in these early chapters of Genesis," wrote Lane, "and we have been taking our time to make sure that we communicate clearly what God has said."
Lane is preparing the Siars to hear and understand the lessons. Several Siar men and women have been trained to teach literacy classes so that when the lessons begin, the Siars will be able to read God’s Word for themselves.
The third class in under-way right now and the Siar teachers are doing a great job. Lane holds bi-weekly teachers’ meetings to encourage and direct the men. He is also holding an advanced literacy class to improve the skills of those who have finished the first course.
"It introduces concepts like discovering the meaning of a story, learning the author’s intended meaning, and following good principles of interpretation," Lane wrote.
Lane’s wife Karrie is spending her afternoons, visiting with the village ladies. She is beginning to translate some short stories to be used in teaching the Siars to read and write and has almost finished "Little Red Riding Hood."
Pray that the Siar people who are learning to read will soon be able to read God’s Word in their own language. Pray for the team ministering to the Siar as they faithfully minister among the Siars.
