Progress amid dangers

There are bright spots even amid difficult and dangerous times in Mexico.

“It’s no longer considered safe enough for us to be in the village or to travel on the road” to work among the Southern Tepehuan people, Andrew Ferguson wrote. Even the nearby city of Durango has been dangerous at times.

“On a positive note, the six weeks in Durango give me plenty of time to work with Placido on lesson preparation and translation,” Andrew wrote. “Today we worked through the creation of Satan and the angels.”

“We then talked a little about what the Bible says about Satan, about him being a liar, a thief and a murderer. As we discussed how Satan works, Placido began to see how Satan has deceived his ancestors and led them away from the truth about God.”

Placido began to question whether perhaps his people’s customs and traditions could all be a lie, and even whether the one they consider god could in fact be Satan.

But clearly communicating what comes next will not be easy.

“As we delve into the concepts of deceit, Adam and Eve allowing Satan to deceive them, the fact that man is now under the dominion of Satan and the fact that God can no longer fellowship with man due to sin, are all difficult to convey in Tepehuan,” Andrew wrote.

“Pray for us and Placido as we seek to clearly communicate all this in his language. And while you’re at it, pray for Placido’s salvation as well.”
