Progress amid persecution
It was 5:30 a.m. when Lourens Laureti heard people outside his house.
With some troublemakers causing problems, and the believers experiencing persecution, it seemed like a good time to get up and see what was going on – carefully.
“To my surprise there were two teenage girls of about 16 years,” Lourens wrote. They had been worrying about the sin they inherited from Adam, and in which they had chosen to live.
And now, at 5:30 in the morning, “they wanted to [say] that they now see that only by placing their trust in Christ's death can they be freed from the penalty of sin. ... They are now also God's children.”
One of the believers also had a breakthrough. The man is very gifted, but has struggled with pressure from family and friends, and often falls back into old ways.
“He has come to the point where he asked us for help, so that is wonderful,” Lourens wrote. “Please pray that God will help him make a clear break with his old life.”
He and other believers will be reminded of the core truths on which their faith stands with evangelistic Bible teaching that began this week. The missionary team’s focus is on teaching believers how to teach, “but it will also be an opportunity for unbelievers to be reached,” Lourens wrote.
Praise God for the work He is doing in the midst of unrest and persecution.
