Pulling teeth

Missionaries Andrew and Nelli Wilson found a new use for needle-nose pliers while ministering among the North Wahgi people in Papua New Guinea.

"Our village papa, Kompaninga, came and asked Andrew to pull his tooth, which had been bothering him for several weeks," wrote Nelli. "Andrew told him that he'd do it, but papa should not ask for compensation, if it hurts. Papa laughed and said, 'OK'"

Andrew pulled the tooth with a small pair of needle-nose pliers and Kompaninga was delighted when the pain went away.

Pulling teeth is just one activity for a busy missionary family in a remote tribal village. Andrew is inputting information into his computer with the new Culture and Language Acquisition software he brought back from home assignment. He's also organizing previous language information and writing a North Wahgi dictionary. This program will benefit the entire missionary team.

A North Wahgi man, Wirol, has been a faithful language co-worker for Andrew. He enjoyed helping Andrew translate some Bible passages.

"Please pray that Wirol will stay interested because in this culture people often … loose interest and drop their work," wrote Nelli. "Jealousy is also a big problem here. Even when others are not so willing to help, they will get jealous of a willing helper, and begin to put pressure on them to stop helping. So pray that others will not put pressure on him, or when they do he will not succumb to pressure."

Pray that Andrew and Nelli will have wisdom in building close and good relationships with the North Wahgi people. Pray also that the Lord will prepare the people's hearts so that they would desire to hear the truth about the Lord Jesus.
