Santos mulls opportunity

Santos and his family are facing a huge decision. He has become an invaluable part of the Guarijio team in Mexico working on translation and ministering to his fellow Guarijios.

He has been asked to move to Chihuahua, Mexico, to live and work among the Guarijios there.

Missionaries Kevin and Sandra Gutwein have offered to let Santos move onto their property, plant crops and raise either sheep or goats to sell for meat. Kevin has also set up a fish farm so that Santos and his family could support themselves.

The projects of raising sheep or goats and fish is to see if it would work in the mountains as alternate sources of income for the Guarijíos. It would also provide opportunities for Guarijíos that want to move to Chihuahua, but the main thrust is to develop economic alternatives for mountain communities.

Missionaries Terry and Renee Reed are waiting on Santos’ decision. If Santos chooses to move, they will move nearby. If he stays in his mountain village, they will continue to minister there.

Santos and Terry work together on translating the Bible into Guarijio. If they move, Santos will take over a Bible study currently taught by missionary Linda Steinbacher. Terry would join him and help him learn to teach so that he could reach out to other Guarijios.

Santos and the Guarijio team are praying for God’s direction in his decision. Santos’ son, Vincente, is planning to attend NTM’s Bible school. He provides income to help the family and would not be able to continue to give if he goes to Bible school.

Pray for Santos as he seeks God’s will for his life. Pray also for Vincente who desires to go to Bible School in order to become better equipped to serve the Lord.
