Sharing the holidays
Last month a group of nine young people from a church in Juarez, Mexico arrived in the Tarahumara village where missionaries Tony and Lauren Finch minister.
They came to hold a Vacation Bible School for the children and a series of meetings with Tarahumara women. The first day 50 children and 18 ladies attended.
The children enjoyed the puppets as well as the singing, hearing Bible stories and playing games. Seeds were planted in many hearts during the Vacation Bible School meetings.
While the ladies and children met, Tony worked with several men from the church to finish the church kitchen and put in a water line for indoor plumbing.
"It will be a tremendous blessing to the ladies when they prepare food for special events for the church," wrote Lauren.
The mission team was able to celebrate New Year's Eve, Tarahumara style. They began the evening with a Discada -- a meal of hamburger, chorizo, chopped bologna, onions, jalapeños, and potatoes -- all cooked on a huge disk from a tractor's plow. To accompany the special feast, Lauren baked several apple pies requested by the Tarahumara believers.
Pray that the mission team from the church in Juarez will be encouraged and challenged by their visit to the Tarahumaras. Pray also for Tony and Lauren as they minister among the Tarahumara people.
