Siars get ready for immense task
A translation workshop was held in Papua New Guinea to assist missionaries in learning more about the translation process that goes into their work through New Tribes Mission.
Missionary Chris Lujan attended the workshop with other missionaries, as well as with their Siar co-workers.
Chris said he wants, with his team, to translate every passage of the Old and New Testament so the Siars can hear and read God's Word.
"After sitting in class and translating Genesis 37 during our workshop, we got an inside look at what it takes to translate God's Word," Chris wrote. "It was a great opportunity for [the Siar co-workers] to see what God has in store for them. They were taken back by the immensity of the task, but excited to finally understand what God has said to them."
Chris, along with the other missionaries, are also realizing that translation is only one aspect of the work that goes into serving in the Siar tribe.
"We believe that God wants to plant a mature, thriving, God-fearing, Bible-based, Spirit-enabled and strengthened church here," Chris wrote.
While they believe God's Word is the foundation for that church, they also know that discipling Siar men and women, and working with them to see God's Truth, will also contribute to their growing knowledge and understanding of God.
"Our short time at the workshop was enlightening, challenging and helped, once again, to give me perspective," Chris wrote. "It was a reminder of what God has in store for us."
Please pray that what was learned in the translation workshop will contribute well to the work Chris, the other missionaries, and Siar co-workers will be doing.
