Siawis are missionaries
The Siawi church in Papua New Guinea commissioned three men as missionaries last month.
Beiyali and Ekebei are waiting for doors to reopen so that they can go to their home villages to witness and teach. Malakai and his wife are excited for the opportunity to go to villages speaking the Bo language, his mother tongue. Missionaries have shared the Gospel in one Bo village and Malakai is hoping to join forces with some of those believers to reach other Bo villages with God’s redeeming Word.
The Siawi church continues to take steps toward functioning on its own. At the end of April missionaries Jason and Shannon Swanson and their four children flew out of their Siawi village for the last time.
“We are so thankful for the extra 18 months that the Lord gave them here and for all that the Lord accomplished through their time here,” wrote missionary Linda Krieg.
Linda continues to work long hours as she translates the book of John into the Siawi language. She is also checking completed Scriptures with her Siawi co-laborers.
“As we continue reading through Siawi Scripture each day,” Linda wrote, “we’d appreciate your prayers, that we’d find all spelling and grammar mistakes, and other errors that can be corrected. We started with Genesis 1, the first Scripture translated and one of the hardest chapters to translate in the Old Testament. There are still a lot of verses ahead of us.”
There are now four elders, three deacons and three missionaries serving in the Siawi church. These men are excited about their new responsibilities and looking for ways to serve the church.
Pray that the Siawi church leaders will continue to grow strong in their walk with the Lord. Pray also for Linda and her co-workers as they labor to bring God’s Word to the Siawis in their own language.
