'The old woman' gets a wild ride

"While many folks have to pay to take a wild raft trip on a raging river," wrote missionary Linda Krieg, "I got to take one coming home from church the Sunday before Christmas, and for no charge (though there should have been an admittance charge for all the audience enjoying the spectacle). It was a rainy morning, and while we were meeting, the small river flooded, and I was faced with the surging waters blocking my path, which winds its way back to my house."

The ever-resourceful Siawis found a solution. They quickly built an impromptu raft by tying some logs together with vines and used a long vine as a pull rope. Some of the younger Siawis swam across to the other side and the "pull vine" was tossed across to them and Linda was pulled across the raging river.

"It was a bit of a wet wild ride, but it provided excellent entertainment for all the bystanders," Linda wrote.

A couple of weeks after her wild trip, Linda was surprised to hear the prayer of one of the Siawi believers:

"Lord, please look out for the old woman, so that she will be able to translate Your Word into our language. It isn’t her language and she doesn’t come from here. Please take care of her, so that she doesn’t fall and break any bones, and take care of her eyes, so that she can see to do the translation, and make sure her computer doesn’t break."

"It took me a bit to realize he was talking about me," Linda wrote.

Pray that Linda and the ten Siawi men and women who make up the translation team will make the Scriptures clearly and accurately.
