'The wonder comes from watching God's plans'

Erica Dorsey is quite amazed that God has made a missionary of her.

“I’m a missionary with New Tribes Mission on the verge of leaving for Papua New Guinea.”

Since you are reading that statement on a mission website, it probably doesn’t sound surprising to you. But to me, it is still a fact so wonderful and absurd, that it makes me laugh.

I like to think that’s why Abraham laughed when God told him he’d have a son.

The wonder comes from watching the intricacy of God’s plans as they unfold and realizing He has a special part in them for me and planned it out ages ago.

The feeling of how absurd it all is comes from the same thought! As plans continue to evolve, I’m reminded of what God says in Isaiah 55:9, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

In case you haven’t guessed, I’m not one of those people who have always felt a heart-tug for world missions.

No, I’m the “other kind” of Christian. Interested and vaguely aware, but mainly content that it was in the hands of competent individuals called by God for that very purpose.

Then I went and saw firsthand that missions isn’t just for people with language, teaching, or preaching skills. There are numerous supporting roles essential to the work of tribal missionaries.

To my great surprise, God has given me the desire and opportunity to be part of filling those roles.

So here I am, ready to leave as a missionary to Papua New Guinea with NTM, delighted that God’s thoughts are so much higher than mine.

You know, God could be telling you that He has a place for you to serve, too.
