They lost virtually everything
Two missionary families in Mexico suffered a huge loss of property when hurricane Jimena flooded their homes last week.
The hurricane had been downgraded to a tropical storm before it parked on top of their area and dumped plenty of rain.
"We were literally cut off from the rest of the world from Wednesday night through Saturday afternoon," wrote Terry Reed.
The two families spent some of their time on a neighbor’s roof, huddled under the Benders’ camper shell.
The flood waters trapped many families. Homes and cars were completely destroyed and the area is expected to be without power and water for two weeks -- which will make the cleanup effort more difficult.
The Bender family’s home was in the main path of destruction and had about seven feet of water and eight inches of mud throughout the house. The Reeds’ house was filled with waist-deep water and a couple of inches of mud.
The Benders lost virtually everything. The Reeds were able to salvage some items that were hurriedly placed on a top bunk and on top of the refrigerator, but the flood destroyed many books, children’s toys, mattresses, bedding, most of their clothing, food, appliances and power tools. Both families’ vehicles are in need of serious attention.
The Reeds had their bags all packed for a trip. Terry was scheduled to attend a translation seminar in Florida, but the storm canceled those plans.
Please pray for strength for the families during this cleanup time and pray that God will provide their needs to continue their ministry. Pray too that the families will be a blessing to their neighbors.
A fund has been established to help the two families and the community recover. Give to MEXICO STORM RELIEF 2009 >>
