Tragedy makes believers bolder

The recent suicide of a young Mengen girl in Papua New Guinea has awakened the believers to be more bold in sharing God’s Word.

After the girl’s death, which was a shock to the village, missionaries took the opportunity to reinforce previous teaching. Believers, who realized the difference sharing the Gospel can make, began witnessing to others.

When contemplating death, Albert said, "Before, I was afraid but now I know that I will go to Heaven. I have no more fear of death."

Kamalus said, "We would fast from eating certain foods, sometimes for even more than a year. This we would do in order to show our sorrow. But today I am not so sad as before, for I know that if she placed her trust in the Redeemer she will be with God and we will see her again."

"If a believer dies then half my stomach is sad and half my stomach is glad," Edward said. "I am sad, for I know I will not see him again in this life, but I am glad for he is with God, free from the hardships of this world and I will see him later."

"Before, I was afraid of the dead spirits but now I am not afraid," Alan said. "I will walk alone in the forest. I will sleep in the night and not stay awake in fear of the spirits. I know our spirits go to Heaven or Hell after death and that the spirits we see or hear is from the devil. God is stronger and more powerful than all these spirits."

Pray for the Mengen believers to grow in their walk with the Lord and to boldly share Him with others who do not yet know Him.
