Training or Teaching

Mahan, a Manobo man in the Philippines, recently moved with his family to the lowlands to train other Manobo believers and to begin an outreach ministry.

But moving wasn't as simple as he hoped.

Mahan has been discouraged over the last three weeks.

"[There's] no work for him in the lowlands and no land he can plant on," missionary Gene Trudeau wrote. "[He's] having a very hard time."

But the believers in the village are making sure Mahan and his family are well taken care of with food to eat every day.

Although they have faith that God will take care of them, Mahan and his family are also trying to figure out if they should move again or not.

Mahan's ministry will require him to serve in two different villages. The one he is currently living in is where he will train Manobo believers. The other village is where he will begin teaching the Gospel.

This situation wouldn't be so difficult if his motorcycle wasn't so unpredictable.

"The motorcycle Mahan has is an old one that Piduy bought for Bible teachers to use for outreaches, but it keeps breaking down," Gene wrote. "Also, there is often no money for fuel."

Mahan is concerned that if he commutes to teach the evangelistic phase of the lessons, he might not always show up due to the motorcycle breaking down, or not having enough money for fuel.

He is worried the unbelievers might get discouraged and stop listening.

However, if Mahan moves to the village to stay with the unbelievers, he'll have to commute to train the believers in the other village, and with the faulty transportation the believers might not get the training they need.

Please pray for Mahan and his family as they lean on God to figure out what their next step in ministry should be.
