Unable to follow God's Law
Tobo believers in Papua New Guinea heard lessons from the book of Romans and discovered some amazing new truths.
The believers learned about the impossibility of keeping the Law and realized that they are in the same boat. They are not able to please God through their works. Only Jesus could keep the Law.
"We are not able to follow the Law," Jason Williamson's language helper shared recently. "There was only one person who was clean and able to keep the Law -- Jesus Christ. There is a big example in God's Talk about how when Adam and Eve sinned they tried to cover themselves with fig leaves, but that was not good enough so God killed a ram and He Himself covered them. That's just like what people try to do today. They try to do good things and keep the Law in hopes that the good things they do will make them clean in God's eyes. But Jesus was clean for us; He was able to keep the Law so when God looks at those who believe in His Son, He sees Jesus' cleanliness and He is satisfied."
After each lesson the believers share their thoughts, discuss what they've learned and realize how they are different from those who have not yet trusted Christ.
"The Tobo people don't normally publicly share their thoughts," wrote Jason, "so hearing people week after week, or even when I see them during the week, sharing these thoughts that can cause waves with the unbelieving community, you can imagine how encouraged we have been. This is real evidence that the Holy Spirit is faithfully growing the believers in boldness and understanding."
Pray that as the Tobos continue to study in Romans their faith and understanding will grow and they will desire to share these things with their unbelieving family and friends.
