'We are all at zero'
As several Mwinika men work with missionary Phil Henderson in Mozambique to translate portions of the Old Testament into the Mwinika language, the Word of God is already stirring up their hearts.
"We are worried about God’s standards," they told Phil. "Just show us the Law. We want to know the list of rules that we need to do!"
What they don’t yet understand is that the Law brings condemnation and despair. When the translation team reached Exodus 20 and began working through the Ten Commandments, they were reminded that there are many more laws to be obeyed. Soon it became evident to them that they fall desperately short of meeting God’s standard.
"We are all at zero! We have no chance," they cried. Then, when they realized that with this condemnation serious consequences come, they covered their faces with their hands and began to cry.
Phil, tears streaming down his face, explained that he had come to tell them that, yes, they are in trouble but that there is hope.
Pray that soon the translation and lesson preparation will be finished and the Mwinika people can hear the message of God’s grace. Pray that many will hear and understand and accept Jesus as their debt payer.
