Why doesn't everyone believe?
The Holy Spirit is working in the life of Kariang, a Mengen woman in Papua New Guinea. She is working with missionary Rebecca Preheim to translate the Scriptures into the Mengen language.
Recently as they were translating portions of Romans five and six, Kariang asked Rebecca a question.
"If Christ’s death covered the payment for the sins of the entire world," she asked, "then why doesn’t the entire world place their trust in Him and get rid of their sins?"
Her expression seemed to indicate that she thought people would be crazy not to take God up on His offer to take away their sins. Thinking about Christ dying on the cross for us while we were still enemies and that death was sufficient payment for the sins of the entire world; she could not imagine not trusting in Christ.
"It seems that every single day that we work on Bible translation together," wrote Rebecca, "she thrills my heart with things that the Lord is teaching her."
The missionaries ministering among the Mengens see growth in other believers also. A literacy class begins this week and 15 men and women are excited to learn to read and write so that they can read God’s Word for themselves.
Pray that Kariang will continue to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and grow in her understanding of God’s Word so that she and Rebecca will translate the Scriptures clearly and accurately. Pray also for the Mengens who are learning to read and write that they will be humble, teachable and willing to help one another.
