Without dorm kids, house is too quiet

Aaron and Meredith DeRidder can’t wait to have all "their kids" back, but are enjoying a break.

The DeRidders care for the children of other missionaries at a school in Papua New Guinea. Many of the missionaries they assist live in remote tribal villages, where educational opportunities are scarce and social interactions for school-age children can be difficult, or even harmful.

"The dorm kids are all back in their respective tribes with their parents now," the DeRidders wrote. "The night before they left we had a campfire and cookout. We sang songs and had a fun time. We also had dorm Christmas on the 10th of December. The house sure is quiet these days. We miss the kids and look forward to their return."

The smaller DeRidder family has taken advantage of the break with a short trip to the coast and a Christmas celebration, complete with Christmas cookies but lacking a bit in terms of weather.

"How can you sing ’I’m dreaming of a White Christmas’ when it is so hot? I did not look at the gauge but imagine it was close to 100 degrees. In spite of the heat we had a wonderful day," the couple wrote.

Pray that the families in the tribes have an equally good holiday, and safe travels back to school.
