Work begins among Kendawangans
The Kendawangan people will soon have an opportunity to hear the Gospel message.
Tim and Andrea Ullum and Paul and Irene Pries have moved to the area and are building relationships and learning the culture and language in preparation for teaching evangelistic Bible lessons.
Missionaries Phil and Shelley Svoboda have been approved to translate Scriptures into the Kendawangan language.
The elders of a local church -- The Church of God’s Word -- took responsibility for the Svobodas who are affiliated with them and agreed that they should move into a village and work among the Kendawangans.
In an unprecedented action the leaders enthusiastically showed their approval of the couple. The whole group unanimously shouted, "Amen!" This is very unusual in this quiet and subdued culture.
"We are encouraged by their involvement and desire to see their own people reached with God’s Word, and last week was a big step in that direction," wrote Shelley.
Pray that the missionary team to the Kendawangan people will remain diligent in studying culture and language and that they will build close and strong relationships among the people.
